The
Pantalica Ranch is an initiative by two couple of brothers:
Pierluigi and Virgilio Valenti. They have the same age and, being part of the same family, they have the same
grandfather, Luigi, who was the first owner of the land where the Pantalica Ranch was
founded.
|
|
They grew up together under their grandfather’s wings who loved the wilderness so much that they decided, after about ten year from his death, to honour and perpetuate his memory by making efforts in order to recuperate what was getting lost because of the fire, the inclement weather and the carelessness of his
sons. |

The restoration works started in 1995 for the old shepherd house together with the ones concerning the “carretteria”, the stables and the hay-loft, added later by the
grandfather. |
 |
The so-called “house” was, in reality, a ruin
(without roof and covered, for the main part, by bushes and other typical “Mediterranean Spot” wild plants. |

It was June 1994, just the part of the year when people, Italian and foreign tourists, come in numbers to visit the
Pantalica Necropolis..
One day some of them, thirsted, asked Pierluigi and Virgilio
to have something to drink. The brothers were happy to offer them that “clear, fresh and sweet” water coming out from the well excavated by their grandfather workers, just ten years before his death, which represented one of the happiest reasons to live in that land called by him
“tamed desert” during forty years of hard, continuous, passionate and good work. |
 |
| That day those tourists complained for there
was no refreshing point near Pantalica. This was the seed which grew in the brothers’
mind which became, day by day, an ever insisting idea, to establish
in this place a serious and noble Country Inn. |
